Facebook has been blocked in Uganda since 14 January 2021 General elections day to elect the President and the Parliament. This was due to Facebook blocking all NRM bloggers Facebook accounts and Museveni the president of Uganda was very bitter with Facebook's decision, thus commanding the Ugandan government to block Facebook operation in Uganda.

people were supposed to access Facebook using  a virtual private network (VPN).

But now it's open and Uganda can now use Facebook freely.

Museveni Explanation why he blocked Facebook In Uganda :

After the National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters' accounts were deleted, Facebook was blocked by the government, according to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Hundreds of pro-government Facebook accounts were deleted by Facebook over the weekend. Facebook, however, claims to have deleted a network of accounts and Pages in Uganda that had engaged in coordinated, dishonest behavior in an effort to stifle public discourse before the elections.

They impersonated users, managed pages, commented on other people's material, shared posts in Groups, and used phony and duplicate accounts to give the impression that they were more popular than they actually were. We acted promptly to look into and take down this network given the upcoming election in Uganda, according to Janet Chepkosgei Kemboi, the Facebook spokeswoman for East Africa.

According to Kemboi, they discovered a connection between this network and the Ugandan Ministry of Information and Communications Technology's Government Citizens' Interaction Center.

President Museveni stated that Facebook has been blocked as a result of removing NRM messenger accounts in his final address to the nation on Tuesday night, just days before elections on Thursday.

Uganda, according to Museveni, doesn't need to be lectured by anyone since "we know everything." According to him, Facebook made the decision to block those who send NRM messages.

He questioned why someone would do that and said he had instructed his team to inform Facebook that if it were to operate in Uganda, it should be utilized fairly by all users. He asserts that the organization will cease operations in Uganda if it chooses to cooperate with the NRM.

Unfortunately, Facebook did not reply to NRM's request, and according to Museveni, the government has probably shut down social media. He adds that no one can fool about with Uganda and pick who is good and who is bad, calling this unpleasant but inevitable.

He did apologize for the inconvenience, but said that no one's arrogance could be tolerated by the government.

Museveni urged Ugandans to vote, claiming that no one would scare them since they were prepared to deal with them.

Social media websites can only currently be accessed over Wi-Fi. Many people tried several times in vain to connect using Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), which often got over the blockage.
