Even though he never said why he dropped the title on social media, some people thought he was trying to get attention because he did it three months before his Legend Hit After Hit concert, which took place on June 30, 2017, at Kampala's Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Chameleone says that he started using the title after he met former Prime Minister Prof. Apolo Robin Nsibambi in the leafy Kampala suburb of Munyonyo.
"If you're called a doctor, think about how Milton Obote, the former president of Uganda, was called a doctor. "He was a doctor, but he couldn't even give an injection to a dog or a chicken," Chameleone said in a video that this reporter saw.
"The title shows that you respect them. And Prof. Nsibambi was the one who came up with it. I met him in Munyonyo, and he told me, "Chameleone, do you know that you've taught a lot of people?" You need to stand out... He said, "No, you should get a Ph.D. in community science." You should be given a prize."
Prof. Nsibambi died on May 28, 2019. He was Uganda's prime minister for the longest amount of time. From April 5, 1999, until May 24, 2011, he held the job. Amama Mbabazi took over after him and led the country until September 19, 2014.
Since he started making music in the early 1990s, it's clear that Jose Chameleone has had a big impact on Uganda's music industry.
