Uganda's entertainment industry is grappling with the devastating news of the loss of the renowned dramatist, comedian, and radio icon, Kato Lubwama.

On Wednesday, May 7th, at approximately 1 am, Kato Lubwama, the legendary dramatist, comedian, and radio icon, passed away at Stanna Medical Center in Bunamwaya. According to reports, he succumbed to a heart attack. The atmosphere at CBS FM, where Lubwama had served for nearly two decades, was filled with deep sorrow, particularly on the Kalisoliso morning show.

During the show, presenter Abby Mukiibi shared the heartbreaking news that Lubwama had recently confirmed his return to the station on June 22nd to participate in a special Kalisoliso program with his former crew, coinciding with the station's 27th anniversary.

Mukiibi expressed his thoughts on the unpredictability of life, stating, "Death is very interesting; I just talked to him, and he said he was going to be with us as we celebrate 27 years."  As Kato Lubwama took on the role of Rubaga South Member of Parliament, his schedule became increasingly demanding, leading to his departure from CBS. Despite initially continuing his association with the station while serving in Parliament, his appearances were limited to Fridays. Eventually, Lubwama decided to leave CBS after Wycliff Luyombya was brought in as his replacement.

In a 2021 interview, Lubwama explained his reasons for leaving, stating, "I left because at some point we became too congested in the studio."

Regarding the circumstances of his passing, Abby Mukiibi revealed that Lubwama experienced a mild attack around midnight and had difficulties breathing. He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, his heart stopped shortly after his arrival.

Mukiibi added that Lubwama's body was transferred to the mortuary at Mulago Hospital for postmortem examinations. From there, it will be taken to a funeral home before being moved to his residence in Mutundwe. Mukiibi assured that further details about the funeral arrangements would be communicated to the public in due course.
