According to businessman Godfrey Kirumira, a friend of the couple, Rema Namakula had planned to retire from music in five years, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the retirement plan had to be extended by ten more years. Kirumira stated that they want Rema to retire to take care of her home and husband, Dr. Hamza Ssebunya. Kirumira praised Rema for taking good care of Dr. Ssebunya and expressed his admiration for their strong love, adding that they are planning a public wedding soon, but he did not disclose the date.
Kirumira also hinted that Rema may be pregnant with another child since she has been vomiting a lot lately, but he did not confirm it. He said, "That's what I see." Kirumira was the chairman of the introduction ceremony when Rema introduced Dr. Ssebunya to her relatives in November 2019. The couple welcomed their first child, Aaliyah Ssebunya, on November 7, 2021.
