
Barbi Jay
Barbi Jay, whose real name is Buyinza Julius, is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born in either 1987 or 1989 (sources differ on the exact year) in Lubiri, Mengo, to Namala Ruth and the late Joel Birinyagwa, a UPDF soldier. Barbi Jay is of the Mubwisi tribe and grew up in various military barracks, including Mbuya, Mukono Satellite, and Kakiri.
He pursued his education at Gobero Baptist Primary School, Crested SS, Word Worthy SS Makindye, Royal College Makindye, and Nakivubo Blue. He later earned a bachelor's degree in public relations and media management from Cavendish International University in Uganda.
His music career started in church as a keyboard player before he transitioned into production. In 2011, he worked with Aziz Azion at Studio 84 as an audio producer. His breakthrough came in 2012 with the song Chocolate Girl, a collaboration with Aziz Azion. He later released hits such as Sumbusa (feat. Eddy Kenzo), Tombuuza, Wire, Sexy Eyes (feat. Fidempa), Omukyala Ye Number Emu, Loudspeaker, Emergency (feat. Iry Tina), and Tulaba Kuki.
As a producer, Barbi Jay owns Reverb Studio and has worked on songs for artists like Aziz Azion, Eddy Kenzo, Rema, and GiftovKaddo. His contributions to the Ugandan music scene have earned him nominations in the HiPipo Music Awards and Zzina Awards .
