Education and growing up
Eddy Yawe is the brother of Bobi Wine, a musician who became a politician. He comes from the family of Mr. Gerald Sentamu, who is the father. Yawe says that his father had 34 children, but he is the fourth child born to his mother.
He was born on May 11, 1973, and grew up in his home village of Kanoni Gomba. According to Eddy Yawe, his family was doing well before the Liberation War of 1980, but when it started, his father joined the rebels of the NRA, who were based in Luweero.
He became Kanoni because he had lost touch with his father. Eddy Yawe went to Kanoni Primary School, a government school, for his primary education. After that, he went to St. Henry's College Kitovu for his secondary education.
He went to a university in the Netherlands on a scholarship and got a master's degree in radio and TV in 2000.
After that, he got another scholarship to study sound engineering at Morgan University in the United States. He did his internship in Hollywood while he was there.
Career in music
Eddy Yawe started singing when he was a child, and he says that his mother made him sing church hymns as a punishment when he did something wrong.Because of this, his mother tried to get him to join a church choir in Kanoni. When he did, Rev. Nsale taught them more about how to sing.
After he finished grade six, his family gave him a guitar as a thank-you for how well he did in school. This was around the middle of the 1990s. When he got to Kampala, he met Phiobe Nassolo and Betty Mpolongoma. Together, they started a band called dimension 2000.Under this band, they worked with other artists like Ronald Mayinja and Geoffrey Lutaya at the time. At this time, a Ugandan musician named Jimmy Katumba was still a big influence on him. His first song, which he recorded at Kasiwukira studios and called "Nentale," was about a girl. After this single, he moved to the Netherlands. While there, he put out his first album, Pamela, but it didn't do well because he wasn't there to promote it.After the Netherlands, he had the chance to go to the United States. He went to Baltimore University to study sound engineering. While he was in Nashville, Tennessee, he started a studio called Dream Studio. Other artists at the time told him to move the studio from the United States to Uganda, which he did.
In 2003, he opened Dream Studio in Kamwokya, where he worked as the studio's lead producer and sound engineer. The studio changed the way the music sounded because it added a new feel to raga music that Uganda's music industry was missing.
Especially for Bobi wine, the studio made hit singles. Songs include funtula, Taata wabana Yani, bada, and many more. The studio also taught producers like Washington, Tony Hails, and Paddy Man how to make music.
Eddy Yawe started a girl group called Dreamgirls. Their song "Weekend" became famous, and girls like Leilah Kayondo and Renah Nalumansi had to perform with them.
