Grace Nakimera Biography
Grace Nakimera, born on February 2, 1985, in Uganda, is a celebrated gospel musician, dancer, composer, and songwriter. Raised by Mr. David Kalema and Ms. Rose Nabulya, she attended Bat Valley Primary School and Old Kampala Senior Secondary School before furthering her studies at Revlon Beauty School in Nairobi, reflecting her diverse interests.
Her musical journey began at the age of seven when she started singing and captivating audiences at talent shows in Kampala. At 18, she moved to Rwanda, spending two years performing with the resident band at Mille Collin Hotel in Kigali, famously featured in the movie Hotel Rwanda, which depicted the tragic events of the Rwandan genocide. Upon returning to Kampala in 2000, she joined the Christ the King church choir, marking a significant chapter in her career.
In 2004, Grace Nakimera gained widespread recognition after collaborating with the duo Gatimo and Paragon on the hit song Ani Akumanyi, which won them the Upcoming Artists Award at the 2004/5 Pearl of Africa Music Awards. After the group disbanded, she embarked on a solo career, releasing hit songs such as Anfuukula, Kiva Kuki, Sukuma, Nvawo Nawe, and the rock gospel anthem Onyambanga.
