Childhood and Education
On November 24, 1992, in the current Buikwe District's Lugazi Mukono District, Jovan Luzinda was born to Salongo Samuel Luzinda and Eva Nantongo.
He was the third child in a family of five when he was born.
Luzinda first went to Wintson Primary School before moving on to Lugazi Parents Secondary School in the Kampala suburb of Najjanankunbi.
He came from a family of business owners. His mother ran a motor spare parts business in Lugazi town, and his father worked as a metal fabricator.
Luzinda took part in extracurricular activities at school like singing and playing football. He could also write songs for the school's elementary, middle, and high schools.
Jovan Luzinda, regrettably, left school before completing his secondary education. In 2013 his parents stopped paying his tuition because he was a misbehaving kid with strange behaviors.
This signaled the start of Luzinda's difficult times. He dropped out of school and left home to begin his own life. Luzinda found it challenging to live in Mengo, a suburb of Kampala City. He went through a lot of difficulties that caused him to regret leaving his home and education.
He began washing vehicles and residing on Kampala's streets. Eventually, Luzinda had no choice but to sleep in the restrooms because that was the only area they could not chase him out of.
Luzinda made the decision to look for job since she was sick of her difficult life. Thankfully, he was permitted to work for the building firm Starling.
But the difficulties persisted even after finding employment. According to Luzinda, he had too much work and worried that he was on the verge of passing away because it had nearly claimed his life.
He had excruciating chest pain, which made him resign from his position. Luzinda wrote his will at the time because he believed his death was imminent. But after being ill for a while, Luzinda asked his fiancée to take him back to his parents' house since he felt he might pass away at any moment. He had given up hope because life was so difficult.
Luzinda recovered his strength and hope after he got home. Luzinda's mother took over and cared for him, and after he recovered his health, she asked him to move back to the city and launch a clothes company, which was an idea he acknowledged.
Luzinda started selling used clothing in the City, which improved his life and financial situation.
Career in Music
2015 saw Luzinda's mother urging him to try his luck in the New Eagles talent hunt program. The New Eagles, led by Geoffrey Lutaaya, were born out of the Eagles Production split.
Given that he sung in the school chorus, church choir, and karaoke, his mother was confident that her son would succeed in life. Thankfully, Luzinda passed the auditions.
Luzinda persisted in joining music despite his father's opposition because of his mother's encouragement and support.
His father called him all kinds of derogatory insults, but his mother refused to back down and encouraged her son's music career. In the end, her blessings helped him get through.
Geoffrey Lutaaya, a seasoned musician who supported Luzinda's musical career, became more personal to him. When it comes to music, Luzinda is who he is now because to Lutaaya. Lutaaya wrote Luzinda's debut track, "Mutamivu," and also taught him how to sing, recorded his music, and found venues for him to perform, such as weddings.
To Luzinda, Lutaaya is more than just a father; he describes him as a nice parent, an adviser, someone who inspired and supported him as well.
The musical path hasn't always been easy, according to Luzinda's account; he recalls being taken out of the recording studio once because he was too inexperienced and didn't have the money to make a song.
Later, after discovering he could fly alone, Luzinda left The New Eagles and flew solo. Overall, however, he is still appreciative of Geoffrey Lutaaya and his wife Irene Namatovu for helping to advance his musical career.
His breakout hit, "Emboosera," launched him into the spotlight. In addition to his singing profession, Luzinda plays football, and Express FC is his favorite neighborhood team.
He notes that his musical hero is Ugandan singer and politician Robert Kyagulanyi, better known by his stage name Bobi Wine.
