Levixone
Levixone is a Ugandan gospel singer who beat the odds and hit it big in 2013 with his song "Nonya omu." Levixone grew up on the streets, and most of his childhood was spent in a slum in Kampala called Kosovo.
With the help of Steve Jean and other producers like Legend P, he recorded his first single at Fenon Records.
Levixone has also made hit singles like "Chikibombe," "Jungle," "Passport," and many more. He also runs a charity called 92 Hands, which helps poor children by giving them food, education, a place to live, and skills training.
Education and growing up
Lucas Lubyogo, whose real name is Levixone, was born in 1992 in the Nakasongola district. His mother, Winnie Mutamba, and his stepfather took care of him as he grew up. Levixone says that his mom told him the truth about where he was born in 2012.
Levixone also says that the man he called his father was not his real father, and that he found out this when he was old enough to go to school. His stepdad used to buy clothes and gifts for his sisters, but not for him.
Levixone's family moved from Nakasongola to Kosovo, which is a slum in a suburb of Kampala. He remembers getting in more trouble for playing in the neighborhood. His stepfather would tell him in a mean way that he wasn't his son.
Levixone ran away from home when he was nine years old because his sister told him that his stepfather had promised to kill him if he ever saw him.
This was because Levixone took too long at the well and had been baptized the day before by following a group of church members. To avoid being hit with a stick, Levixone just ran away and started living on the streets in Kosovo, but he never went back home.
During his time on the street, he knew a man named Teffe who always gave him marijuana to sell and for which he could pay 100shs every day. Later, he quit this job and went to the city center because a friend told him that he could get a better-paying job selling water in buveera.
On his first day of work, he slipped and poured water on himself. When he told his boss what happened, his boss just hit him and told him to keep working for free.
After selling water for a month without getting paid, Levixone's friend told him to keep selling water and take the money and run away. So that's what he did.
He went back to Kosovo without a job and no place to live. He found an unfinished building to live in and began looking for work again. He was hired to sell avocados and honey, but he used this time to start boxing with his friends. The business couldn't keep going, so he had to start picking up trash to make money.
During all this trouble, he had kept his family from finding him, but one day, his mother found him by accident and asked him to go home, but he refused. He could just go stand far away and look at his mother. Then he could go back to his life in the ghetto.
Later, Levixone stopped hawking and started roasting goats. He didn't know that his boss was stealing the goats, though. One day, his boss was caught stealing a goat. He was beaten, and a goat was tied around his neck. He was forced to walk around the town.
When the business failed, Levixone started hitting people and taking their things. Levixone started using drugs to stay warm at night, and his community turned against him and his friends. When a mob beat his friend to death, Levixone stopped trying to stop crime. He says that in Lusaze, there was a gathering, and Levixone and some of his friends went.
But not long after they got there, some South Sudanese came and said that Levixone's friend had robbed them. The mob turned on Godie, a friend of Levixone's, and beat him to death.
After burying his friend, Levixone stopped stealing and went back to his abandoned building. During this time, he looked for work and became a pool attendant.
His dream of going back to school came true when he got hired to play in a football game and scored goals. White people from a group called Fields of Life were also there to watch. Neil Fox became interested in him and began paying his school fees.
He went to the first grade at St. Joseph Mappera School. Levixone later went to Grace High School in Gayaza, which helped him become even better at music.
Career in music
One day, Levixone went to Pastor Namutebi's church, which was in a place called Kiffudu Mengo. They used to invite musicians to perform, and he saw this as a chance to dance and make money. However, the MC wouldn't let him on stage because he already had a long list of dancers, but he would let him on if he was going to sing.
Levixone lied about the words to the song and went on stage. After his show, two men, Crystal Fabulous and Tick Tah, asked him to come to their place.
These two men asked him for help, which he gave them. They needed someone to help them carry wood, which Levixone did. When they got to where they were going, they asked him to stay at their newly opened studio.
This studio put him in touch with a lot of musicians and music producers, like Mac Elvis, Legend P, and many others, who came to record music there. Even though Usinipite was not a hit, it was his first single.
One time he was asked to perform, Steve Jean saw him and asked him to record a single at Fenon records in 2010. Steve Jean asked him to make copies of his first single, "Nonya omu," which became his first big hit when it came out.
The video was also made by Fenon for free. Since he released his first single, Levixone hasn't looked back, and he is now thought to be one of the best gospel artists in Uganda.
The 2018 Sauti Awards named him the best male artist in East Africa.

Controversy
Levixone gave back a Mercedes Convertible that was given to him by Lanek, who is also a gospel artist. Levixone says that Lanek was using this gift to insult him and drag him into fights he didn't need to be in.
