Navio: Daniel Lubwama Kigozi's Life Story, Music, Wife, and Family

What is his name? UgMuziki Media looks at Daniel Lubwama Kigozi's life story, his early years, his age, his music, his family, his wife, his father, and his mother.

Navio born Daniel Lubwama Kigozi is a Ugandan rapper. He got his start with the award-winning group Klear Kut, which coined the term "Ugaflow" to describe the hip hop style in Uganda.

Navio's first hit song, "All I want to know," was with the group Klear Kut when he was 16 years old. He is best known for his successful solo career, which includes hits like "Rukus," "Bugumu," "Njogereza," and many more.

Navio was a member of the African supergroup One8, which also included 2face from Nigeria, Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Amani from Kenya, Ali Kiba from Tanzania, and many more. The American pop star R. Kelly wrote and produced the first song the group put out, which was called "Hands Across the World."

Schooling and history

Daniel Lubwama Kigozi, better known as Navio, was born on October 18, 1983, to engineer Daniel Kigozi Serwano and physician Dr. Maggie Kigozi, a former Director at Uganda Investments Authority. His father was an engineer, and his mother was a doctor.

Navio is the youngest of three kids. His brother and sister are older. Navio's father died in 1994, and his mother, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, raised him.

Navio went to the Entebbe church nursery school when he was a baby. Later, when he was in first grade, he went to St. Andrews in Kenya.

After Kigozi finished primary school, he went to Aga Khan secondary school, where he got his secondary education. When he finished secondary school, Navio went to Monash University in South Africa, where he got a degree in International Relations and Media studies.

Career in Music

Daniel Kigozi Navio says that when he was growing up, he could listen to a lot of music, including that of his older brother. Since his brother liked rap music, which was a new style at the time, he had a lot of rap music from artists like Run-D.M.C., MC Hammer, Vanilla Ice, and the Beastle.

Navio says he could try to sound like them, and when he was about 10 years old, his mother heard him rapping in the living room. She ran in to see if it was Vanilla Ice, but it was actually his son. His mother was so happy, and he took him to the legendary producer Hope Mukasa's studio in Baava.

Klear Kut

At age 16, Daniel Kigozi Navio and his four best friends—Tom, known as The Mith Mayanja, Jonathan, known as J-Baller Leslie, Abba, known as Langman Lang, and Habib Abdul, known as Papito—started a hip hop group called Klear Kut.

The group's first album was called "Body and Soul." It was a big hit and had several hit singles, including "All I Wanna Know" with Juliana, which was the album's most popular song.Other singles from the album included "Remember" and "Let's Get on It." The group helped make hip hop a popular style of music in the country.

Klear Kut was nominated for a Kora award in 2002. They were nominated for most promising newcomer and revelation of the year.

The group's second album, K2, came out in 2003. It didn't do as well as the first one, but it still had some hits, like "Mon Coeur Murder of Crows" with Rania and "Superstar" with Bebe Cool, which was a fan favorite remix.

They won the PAM Award for Best Hip Hop Group later in 2004.

Since other Klear Kut members had left, Navio decided to go out on his own, but he kept the group's name in all of his music.

Before he moved to South Africa in 2005, Navio wrote a song called "Rukus." He then went to fenon records to have it recorded by Peter Miles, and the best video director at the time, Dedac, shot the video. This is still one of the Ugandan songs that was popular in other countries and made it to the top of the charts, and it still sounds new to us.

This song was so popular that it was used in the season finale of Big Brother Africa 3 in 2008, four years after it came out. He also sang on records by other artists, like Burn ft. Blue 3 in 2007 and Amaaso gogera with Jeremiah Sanyu in 2008.

After graduating from South Africa's Monash University in 2008, Navio went back to work in the music business. In 2009, he put out his first album, Half a Legend, which included the hit songs Bugumu, Salooni, Ngalo, and Respect with a Kenyan artist named Jua Kali.

Badman from Kamokya, which also had Bobi wine on it, was another hit from the same album.

He won Best Hip Hop Artist at the Pearl of Africa Music Awards. He was also nominated for Best Male Artist, Best Video, and Best Hip Hop at the Kisima Awards in Kenya.

Most music critics say that Daniel Kigozi, aka Navio, has a unique style because he finds a balance between African sounds and modern and international flavors.

Controversies

Navio hasn't made a name for himself in the hip-hop world by getting into fights, but GNL was the first artist he had a beef with in 2009.

Navio says that GNL attacked him at a show in Mbarara and treated him badly, so they both stopped getting along. Navio said that GNL Zamba was better than him in his verse of the Mr. DJ song. Later, they worked out their differences and got back together.

Gravity Omutujju has been attacking Navio lately because Navio said that Gravity isn't a hip hop artist. However, Navio said that he can't fight with Gravity because he is above that level.

Charity work: Navio has always worked with Reach A Hand, an organization that helps change the lives and status of young people in the country. He has always performed for and written music for them.
