Ronald Mayinja
Many of Ronald Mayinja's fans say that he is the only man who can write about how a woman really feels or how a man feels about her. He is thought to be one of Uganda's best Luganda songwriters, and he has many songs to prove it. He is part of the well-known Eagles Productions, which also includes Meseach Semakula and Geoffrey Lutaaya, among others.
The young Lutaaya never thought he would become a musician. As a young man, he wanted to join the army because of how badly his stepmother treated him. He didn't join the army because of how hard it was to train and get in. If he had, he would probably be leading patriotic songs with a Kalashnikov on his back to boost the morale of his fellow soldiers instead of singing beautiful songs like Doreen.
He went to live with his mother in Kampala after that. She liked the music he wrote for school plays, but she didn't want him to become a musician. Instead, she wanted him to go to college and get a white-collar job. Ronald's finances were tight after his father died and his mother moved to Europe. He decided he didn't want to dream about getting paid anymore. Even though he had a degree in business studies from NCBS, he decided not to look for a job. Instead, he decided to make a living by adding words to melodies. Maybe his business skills help him figure out what people want to hear because he knows the magic formula.
Soon, he put out his first album, Sinzoba, which Mulindwa Muwonge, who worked for CBS at the time, helped promote on the radio. This helped people notice him as a rising star, and some even thought he was the late legend Elly Wamala's son because of how he sounded. Mayinja is so lucky and talented to have a beautiful voice that he can use to sing about love.
Akamanyiiro (1997), Claire (1998), Necklace (1999), Njakuloondola (2002), and Doreen (2003) were his first movies that did well (2004). With the start of TV shows like The Late Show on WBS TV, Ugandan artists realized that the screen was an important way to promote new projects. Mayinja was one of the first Kadongo Kamu/Contemporary Ugandan artists to make a video, and his song "Necklace" became an instant hit, playing on the radio every day. The man was simple, but the lyrics were hot, funny, loving, and precise. They were the kind of lyrics that married people need to think about their love again.
