Sweet Kid, born Moses Sserwada, is a Ugandan musician known for his melodious voice and R&B-style music. He gained popularity in the early 2000s with his hit song Mama Brenda, which became a household favorite in Uganda. His talent was recognized when he won the Pearl of Africa Music Award in 2004 as the Best Upcoming Musician, making him the youngest artist to win a national music award at the age of 22 .
Born on September 13, 1982, in Kawempe, Sweet Kid is the third of nine siblings. He attended Malcolm X Primary School and later joined Alliance Modern School for secondary education. His musical journey began in school, where he mimicked Mariah Carey and Brandy, two artists he greatly admired. His stage name originated from an incident in 1998 when he was performing at a club, and the audience referred to him as a "sweet kid" due to his smooth voice.
Sweet Kid's music career was guided by veteran musician Mariam Ndagire, who helped him refine his songwriting and performance skills. His first album, Tobesiga (2004), featured hits like Kankutwale and Mama Brenda, which cemented his place in the Ugandan music industry. He later released more albums, including Abakusigula and Nze Wuwo.
His other popular songs include Akadde, Aberawo, Ndayira, Sirikyusa, and Ssanyu Lyange. By the mid-2000s, Sweet Kid had become one of Uganda's biggest R&B artists, alongside other prominent musicians of that era.
